Blonde Naso Tang

Blonde Naso Tang (Naso Elegans)
Temperament: Semi Aggressive
Reef Safe: Yes
Minimum Tank Size: 145 gallons
The beautiful and energetic Blonde Naso Tang requires a tank size of at least 145 gallons when mature. Like most Tangs, the Blonde Naso thrives best in a mature tank with a large amount of live rock for shelter and grazing. Moderate to turbulent flow is also essential as they enjoy actively swimming with and against the current. Being on the more energetic Tangs, a large area for free swimming is also essential for long term health.
Although it may be difficult to get them to initially feed, once acclimated they will consume almost anything with gusto. A varied diet consisting of Spirulina Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, high quality pellet or flake is also necessary. Nori seaweed or other forms of seaweed should be offered at least 3-4 times per week on a veggie clip or attached to a rock. As with most saltwater fish, for water quality purposes it’s better to feed small amounts often instead of larger sized meals once or twice a day.
Standard water quality parameters apply for the Blonde Naso Tang. Temperature should be between 75 and 79 degrees, PH 8.1-8.4, SG 1.020 -1.025, dKH 8-12. As always, keep Nitrates below 10 ppm and Nitrites and Ammonia at 0 ppm. This species isn’t particularly susceptible to Marine Ich, Velvet or other diseases when compared to other Tang species, however it’s still recommended to quarantine new additions and supplement their diet with garlic.
Because the Blonde Naso Tang can reach upwards of 15 inches, it’s advisable to house only one per tank. Exceptions can be made, however only if the tank is larger than 300-400 gallons. Overall, this personable member of the Sturgeon fish family is a striking addition to any large reef tank, adding color and energy.
