Orange Anthias: Female – Pseudanthias squamipinnis

Care Level:  Beginner

Temperament:  Peaceful

Diet: Carnivore

Reef Safe:  Yes

Minimum Tank Size: 100 gallons

The Orange or Lyretail Anthias is an active species.  It only grows up to 5 inches, however it’s social tendencies dictate a large tank with ample supply of live rock and swimming space.  Females are generally orange while males are a combination of red and purple.  If kept in a group it should be one male and several females.  The Orange Anthias spends most of its time in the middle of the aquarium, though it will retreat to any area if there is a threat.

Like all Anthias, the Orange Anthias is hermaphroditic.  If the dominant male perishes, usually the largest female will take its place. Standard water parameters apply as the Orange Anthias isn’t terribly difficult to care for.  Temperature 74-78 degrees; SG 1.020-1.025; PH 8.1-8.4; nitrates <10 ppm; nitrites and ammonia 0ppm.
